How to use this round

Film and television is the round most likely to be swept by one table, because it is the category where being a specialist looks like being a normal person who watches things.

Balance it the way you would a music round: across decades, and across film and television rather than all one. A round of ten that is entirely films from the last fifteen years is a round for one generation.

It is also the easiest category to convert into a picture round if you have a screen: a still from the film, name the film.

Turning this into a picture round

Film is the best category for a picture round because a single still is instantly recognisable or completely impossible, with very little in between, which makes it easy to pitch.

Hand it out at the start and collect it at the break. It gives people something to do during the fifteen minutes at the bar, which is exactly where a picture round belongs.

Avoid anything that dates

There is nothing on this page about box office records, streaming numbers or what is currently popular, and that is deliberate. Those change every year and a question about them is wrong within one.

If you write your own, the safe ground is the same as here: what happened in a film, who made it, and awards that have already been given out.
