How PubTrivia compares
Honest comparisons with the other ways to run a quiz night: SpeedQuizzing, Sporcle, QuizXpress, Kahoot, AhaSlides and pen and paper, and where each one wins.
How these pages are written
Comparison pages published by one of the products being compared are usually worthless, and everybody knows it. These are written to a few rules so that ours are not.
- Every claim is dated and sourced
- Each page says when we last read the other product's own pages and links to them. Products change; a page that does not say when it was checked is asking you to trust it further than you should.
- We say where they are better
- Every page has a section naming the situations where the other product is the right choice, and they are real situations rather than straw men. All six of them recommend against us for some readers, because for some readers we are the wrong answer.
- No claim that something is missing without checking
- Where we could not establish something from a competitor's public pages, the page says so rather than guessing. "We could not tell" is an honest answer and a guess dressed as a fact is not.
- Pen and paper is included
- It is the option most quiz nights actually use, so leaving it out would make the whole set dishonest by omission.
The comparisons
- Best quiz appsSix ways to run a quiz night, from a supplied host to desktop software to pen and paper: what each one is for, what it costs, and which suits your venue.
- vs SpeedQuizzingPubTrivia as a SpeedQuizzing alternative: credits bought per night against a monthly subscription, and a free app to download against a web page that opens.
- vs SporcleSporcle Live sends a host to your venue; PubTrivia is software you run yourself. Different problems, different answers. It depends on whether you want to host.
- vs QuizXpressQuizXpress is desktop software with buzzers and white-labelling; PubTrivia is a web app for one job. Where QuizXpress is more capable, and what that costs you.
- Kahoot for pubsPlenty of venues run a pub quiz on Kahoot. What works, what does not, and what the business pricing on Kahoot 360 actually costs a venue running one weekly.
- vs AhaSlidesAhaSlides is a presentation tool with quiz slides in it. That difference decides almost everything about which one suits a weekly quiz night in a pub.
- Paper vs appPen and paper is the real competitor. An honest comparison: what paper is genuinely better at, what the marking costs you every week, and when to stay on it.
Tell us if we have it wrong
If you work on one of these products and something here is out of date or inaccurate, email support@pub-trivia.app and we will correct it. That is a genuine offer: a page that misstates your product is a problem for us as much as for you.
