What a question can be

Two kinds. Multiple choice, where you write the options and mark one correct, and true or false. Both are answered with a tap, which is the point: a free-text answer would have to be marked by somebody, and marking is the thing this replaces.

That constraint shapes how you write. A question that would have been "name the three" on paper becomes four plausible options with one right one, and the work moves from the player's pen to your keyboard.

Points and timing, per question

Each question carries its own value and its own answer window, so a pack is not a flat list of equally weighted trivia.

Points: Anywhere from 10 to 1,000, defaulting to 100. A 500-point closer really is worth five times a 100-point opener, under both scoring modes.
Answer window: 5 to 15 seconds, defaulting to 15. This is the time on the clock after the three-second read, not including it.
Why the ceiling is fifteen: A longer window makes for a slow room, and the server arms the whole question, the read, the window and a grace second, as a single timer. Fifteen seconds of silence in a pub is longer than it sounds.

Writing questions that work in a pub

A quiz question in a noisy room has about ten seconds to be understood. Long preambles, double negatives and questions that depend on a date being read precisely all fail, not because they are hard, but because half the room misread them.

Wrong options have to be plausible. Three obviously silly answers and one real one is not a question, it is a free point, and a table that notices will stop reading the options at all.

Watch the difficulty curve within a round. Five questions that are all hard is not a challenging round, it is a round where every table scores one and the standings do not move.

And check the answer. The most common way a custom pack goes wrong is a question whose correct answer was right when it was written and has since changed.

Packs, limits and reuse

Custom packs sit alongside the five built-in ones, so a night can take four rounds from a pack and one you wrote. Pro includes up to five custom packs; Ultimate is unlimited. The free session does not include custom packs, it runs on the built-in ones.

A pack is reusable by design. The local round you write in January is still there in June, and a venue that writes one round a month has a library of its own by the end of the year.

If you host at more than one venue

Your packs belong to you rather than to a room, which is what makes them portable. A freelance quizmaster writing their own material takes it from one venue to the next, and the pack is the thing the landlord is actually paying for.
