What comes with it

Thirteen packs are included on every plan, including the free session, with over 800 questions between them. You do not have to write a question to run your first quiz night.

General Knowledge: The backbone of a pub quiz and the one to build a night around. Broad enough that no table is locked out of it and no table sweeps it.
Pop Culture & Entertainment: Film, television, celebrity and internet. The round that a younger crowd wins and that a student union should probably lead with.
Music & Audio: Artists, lyrics, labels and the industry. Reliably the most argued-over round in any pub in the country.
Sports: Fixtures, records and the people. Divisive by design, a sports bar will love it and a hotel lounge will not.
Food & Drink: Cooking, ingredients, and drink. The natural fit for a taproom or a restaurant, and the round that a bar staff team will clean up on.
Geography & Travel: Capitals, rivers, landmarks and flags described in words. A staple round, and the one where the table that travels finally gets to show off.
History: Ancient Rome to the Good Friday Agreement, with a fair share of British and Irish history. Monarchs, wars, inventions and the people behind them.
Science & Nature: The body, space, animals and the periodic table. Better as one round in a mixed night than as a whole quiz, and the round the quiet table often wins.

True or False Quickfire: Sixty fast statements, half true and half false, on fifteen-second timers. A good opener because every table scores, and a good tiebreaker because it is quick.
Brainbusters: The hard pack. Art, words, myth, politics and the deep end of everything, for the room where the same table wins every week.
Halloween Special: Folklore, monsters, Gothic novels and the famous end of horror film. Built for a room where plenty of people have never watched a horror film on purpose.

How far a pack goes

You choose how many questions a session uses, which is what makes a pack last. Taking twenty questions from a pack of many leaves the rest for next week, and a venue running one night a week gets months out of the thirteen before anything repeats.

It also means you can size the night to the room. A quiet Tuesday with three tables wants a shorter quiz than a full Friday, and that is a number you set when you start the session rather than a different pack.

Building a mixed night

Most venues do not run one pack end to end. They take a round from General Knowledge, a round from Music, a round from whichever pack suits the crowd in front of them, and finish on something the room will argue about on the way out.

The order matters more than the content. Open with something broad so every table scores in the first round and nobody writes the night off early; put the hardest round third or fourth, while people are still concentrating; finish with a round that is fun rather than difficult. Brainbusters is written for that third or fourth slot, and True or False Quickfire works as an opener or a fast finish.

Read the pack before the room does

Any pack can be previewed in full, questions and answers, before you host it. It takes five minutes and it is the single most useful thing you can do before a quiz night.

You are looking for three things: a question that has gone out of date since it was written, three questions in a row about the same subject, and anything that is going to start an argument you do not want to referee.

When to write your own

The included packs cannot know that your village lost its post office in 1994, or that the away end at the local ground holds four thousand. A local round is the thing regulars talk about, and it is the reason most venues end up writing some of their own questions eventually.

Custom packs sit alongside the built-in ones rather than replacing them, so the usual shape is four rounds from a pack and one you wrote yourself.
